Not lecturing but it’s one of those words that are lost in the abreviation culture and tiktocking:
Ataraxy (also spelled ataraxia) is a noun meaning a state of calm, tranquility, and freedom from mental or emotional disturbance, anxiety, or distress
I focused on the “freedom of emotional disturbance” Which, I personally think, it’s the opposite of the “whatever” very often heard these days. That one is a rejection with disengaging from emotions. My painting wants to say “I mix nobility (ruff) with my way of adorning my nude (torso/body) and I am fine with it.
Why do we “translate” works of art, I often, still, ask myself. But some need a vocal context to be created because a work is not a book and very seldom, in the history of portraiture, a painter told his story with the brush. The best one can do is introduce mystery, doubt, surprise. (did anyone translate Mona Lisa? they tried)
I will sometimes give a background story of what inspired me, what I tried to achieve, always leave something out or else I will get bored myself, while working.
