I used oil sticks and oil brushes on a rugged canvas board, which I feel adds to the roughness of the scene. At the same time, there is a certain silence in the nude man's submission that keeps the composition from feeling overwhelmed.
Oil sticks are relatively new to me, but they allow me to apply strokes with much more energy. While brushes can do that too, holding a paint-loaded brush—no matter how direct or brutal the stroke—feels completely different from working with an oil stick. The process also reminds me of my time doing street art.
