Yearning
inspired by an old song with even older lyrics (by Clement Marot, 1544)
You make me pine away, though I havn't offended you.
You've stopped writing to me, or asking after me.
But despite this I do not desire any other man
I'd rather die than change my mind.
I don't say that your love has vanished,
but I do complain of the anguish I receive.
And far from you I humbly beg you not to be angry at me.
